Giving up the 9-5 to start an online business is a decision that could change your life. It changed mine. I am exceedingly blessed to be home every day doing something I love that also makes me money.

Online business created for you

Anyone can have the online business lifestyle, however building a presence on the web takes planning, effort and dedication. But if you are motivated and committed to starting a successful business, have the confidence that you'll succeed, and the tenacity to make it succeed, then these are 6 easy steps you'll want to follow for creating a business you can grow and prosper with.

Step 1. Have an Idea

Any successful business starts with an idea for making money. This could be a product to sell or a service that you offer.

But the beauty of having an online business is that you don't need either of these things. You could simply promote other people's products or services or offer information on a topic of interest you love and make money through advertising.

But it all has to start with an idea. If you already have a product or service to sell, perfect, if not, start thinking about what interests you have, or perhaps what topics would you enjoy writing and teaching people about?

People come to the internet for information and solutions to their problems, if you can give them that information, help them resolve their problems or provide remedies for their ailments, you'll find success online.

Step 2. Create a Blog

The easiest way to begin building your online presence is to create a blog, specifically a WordPress self-hosted blog. The WordPress platform is one of the easiest to set up, and WordPress gives you all the customization through their super easy to install plugins.

To get started you'll need a hosting account which will cost you less than $10 a month and the purchase of a domain name will cost you about $12 a year.

Alternatively, you could set up a completely free blog that requires no hosting or domain name purchase, however these free, remotely hosted blogs require you to follow their rules on how to manage your blog. What's more is that your domain name will be chosen for you.

I much prefer paying the few extra dollars it costs to have complete control and manage my blog however I wish.

Step 3. Develop a List of Subscribers

Developing an email list of subscribers to your blog is how you will capture the names and emails of the individuals that come to your blog. This is important to your online business because it gives you an opportunity to start building trusted, loyal relationships with visitors that find your site interesting or informative.

Any visitor that signs up to be on your list is highly targeted, meaning they're the people most interested in what you are about. It's these people that you'll want to offer free information to, connect with socially and build trusting relationships with. They're also the individuals that are most likely to buy from you.

Step 4. Craft a Free offer

Before you post your email opt-in box, create a valuable free offer that will entice your visitors. Your free offer could be a video an audio, a written guide, a how to course or emails tips that you send out on a daily or weekly basis. Whatever your offer is, it should be something that your visitor perceives as a real value.

You can create your own free offer, which is what I recommend, or you can have it created for you. Either way, making sure it's something that your reader finds useful will be key to your business and your reputation.

Step 5. Start Writing Your Blog Posts

Once your blog is set up and you're ready for email subscribers, start writing your blog posts. I recommend writing about 3-5 blog posts a week to start. Blog posts can be as short or as long as you like, however they should most often contain information that your readers will benefit from. But keep things interesting and fun too. You can liven up your posts with personal opinions, tell a funny story now and then or get others to contribute with guest posts that offer new insight and fun ideas.

If the purpose of creating a blog is to make money, you'll need a product or service to sell. You can certainly find your own products to sell or you may want to find a products or services to promote as an Affiliate. For example, a blog about natural skin care might promote natural skin care products. For products or services you promote, write useful reviews that help your readers make the buying decision. As your blog gains more and more traffic, you may also be able to monetize it by offering advertising options.

Step 6. Use Your Keywords

The internet is driven by keywords so you'll need to find and use keywords and keyword phrases that best describe your blog posts.
Once you find these keywords, place them in your blog post title, description and in the content of your posts.

To find the keywords people use to find information on the web simply use the free Google Keyword tool. Start by searching seed keywords, the 2 or 3 words that best describe your post, then enter those words in the keyword tool to expand your keyword phrase to something more descriptive and relevant to your post.

The next step is yours and that's to simply take action and get started.
